CO monitoring in parking/service garages

Carbon monoxide (CO) is commonly referred to as the “silent killer.” Colorless, odorless and tasteless, CO is extremely toxic and often affects victims in such a manner that they fail to recognize the danger until it’s too late.

CO is a product of incomplete combustion that which occurs in internal combustion engines. CO is present in varying degrees in all vehicle exhaust systems. As little as 0.02 percent (200 ppm) CO concentration in air during a four-hour exposure period can cause severe effects such as nausea and dizziness. During the initial stages of CO poisoning, the victim’s judgment is often impaired, presenting the likelihood of a serious accident. In enclosed areas such as parking garages, potentially lethal concentrations of CO can build up quickly — before exposed individuals have any indication of danger. At issue is not whether CO may reach hazardous concentrations, but rather how to control and ventilate it when it does.

Ambetronics Carbon Monoxide (CO) Detection system are used to warn when the quantity of harmful gases reaches an unhealthy level to ensure that the management of ventilation is done the best and most profitable way, ie. According to fresh air requirements. When the concentration of Carbon Monoxide becomes too high, the fans start automatically and stops again when the Carbon Monoxide concentration has down to the predetermined level. The Carbon Monoxide Transmitterhas a built-in electrochemical Carbon Monoxide (CO) sensor and has 24 months life time expectancy in normal operation environment.

Carbon Monoxide Detection system save energy costs by controlling ventilation equipment in areas where high concentrations of CO may present serious health problems. Various building and occupancy codes require that ventilation fans run 100% of the time in enclosed areas, such as parking garages, unless a CO monitoring system is installed.

The Ambetronics Carbon Monoxide Monitor has an easy to read digital display that continuously indicates ambient CO concentrations. As carbon monoxide levels increase, contacts are provided to actuate ventilation equipment and an audible internal alarm will activate if CO levels continue to rise. Since ventilation equipment is only required when CO levels are elevated, energy costs for HVAC operation are significantly reduced.

The Ambetronics Carbon Monoxide Monitor (GM-2200) has the capacity to accept either one or two sensor inputs. Both signals may be remote, provided through the use of Ambetronics Carbon Monoxide Transmitters (GT-2500) or one may be integral (local), with or without a remote transmitter attached. In smaller areas or when localized ventilation is used, it is most appropriate to use a standalone system (GM-1100). These systems include sensor, power supply, ventilation activation relays and alarm indication. Standalones provide the simplest solution to monitoring requirements.

The Ambetronics Carbon Monoxide Transmitter is used to provide a proportional analog signal to the Ambetronics Carbon Monoxide Monitoror a Building Management System (BMS). It is also used in variations of Ambetronics Combination Gas Detectors that require a remote CO sensor. Here is a basic outline of Carbon Monoxide Detection system with GM-2200 Monitor and GT-2500 Detectors.
