ISR Exclusive Interview | Mr. Yongdu Kim on Korea Disaster & Safety Innovation at K-SAFETY EXPO 2025

Shilpa Dongre, Publisher of Industrial Safety Review magazine, held an exclusive conversation with Mr. Yongdu Kim, Director of the Disaster and Safety Industry Division at Korea’s Ministry of the Interior and Safety, during K-SAFETY EXPO 2025 (17th to 19th September,2025) at KINTEX, Korea.

The exchange addressed Korea’s strategic shift from reactive disaster response to preventive models built on artificial intelligence, robotics, drones, and digital technologies. Mr. Kim outlined how Advanced Disaster Response Special Zones are reinforcing industrial and public safety by enabling predictive intervention and rapid control measures.

He further highlighted applications of AI in factories and field operations, where real-time monitoring systems can detect incidents, alert control centres, and trigger immediate safety protocols. Discussions also covered collaborations with provincial authorities and industry stakeholders, featuring innovations such as earthquake-prevention systems, marine safety awareness programs, and robotics for firefighting and search-and-rescue.

Mr. Kim accentuated Korea’s readiness to expand international cooperation, particularly with India, in scaling safety solutions and building platforms for manufacturers, distributors, and technology providers to work together.

Looking ahead, he stressed that artificial intelligence and robotics will be decisive in reducing occupational accidents across Asia by 2030, underlining Korea’s intent to lead this transition. Industrial Safety Review remains dedicated to documenting such advancements and translating them into actionable insights for engineers, plant managers, and policymakers worldwide.
