Fire & Security Association of India (FSAI) appoints Mr. Rajan Luthra from Reliance Industries as its National President

Fire & Security Association of India (FSAI), India’s premier safety and security industry association, is pleased to announce the appointment of Rajan Luthra as National President. He has taken charge from N.S. Narendra from 1st April 2013 for a two year term. Rajan Luthra reacting to his appointment as National President said “I am honoured to be appointed National President of FSAI. It will be my endeavour to try to fast forward the mission of FSAI in enabling us to foster a spirit of safe living among all citizens of India and inculcate a proactive mind-set towards safety and security at all times”. As per him, the rapidly growing fire safety and security systems and equipment industry, which some reports estimate to reach INR 30,000 crore by 2017, needs a strong industry body to further its aims and objectives.

Rajan Luthra is a recognized thought leader in the safety and security industry with over 23 years of experience in security and technology domains. He is a Vice President looking after Global Corporate Security in Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), India’s largest private sector and a Fortune 100 company with revenues of US$ 68.4 billion. Over last 14 years in Reliance, he has been part of various mega-businesses of the group including Energy, Telecom & Retail.

Rajan has designed, engineered and program-managed the roll-out of large scale technology driven security, safety and building automation systems for almost all Reliance projects including Refinery, Petrochemical, Oil & Gas, Pipeline, Retail, Telecom, Life Sciences, IT Park, Data Centre, Educational & Health. He has been the architect of the world’s largest integrated IP-based security solution covering thousands of sites, tens of thousands of cameras, smart card & biometric readers, alarm panels and sensors monitored from multiple high-tech Security Operation Centers.

Rajan launched India’s first RFID-based enterprise-wide contact-less smart card system for RIL group in 1999 for multiple applications including Photo-ID, attendance, access control, biometrics, vending machine, e-purse, etc. In 2005, he was hand-picked to join Reliance Retail Ltd (RRL) where he helped define the company’s strategy and business plans as a member of the core team. He managed the planning and roll-out of IT systems and business processes of RRL. He created and led the Security and Loss Prevention function, now considered a benchmark in Indian organized retail industry.

As part of Reliance’s core leadership team, Rajan has driven many strategic management initiatives for enterprise security within RIL including a path-breaking Reliance Employee & Family Emergency Response Service (REFERS). He is also a key member of the Reliance Security Advisory Council. He has initiated Reliance Security Solutions and Reliance Aerospace Technologies, two new ventures of RIL, and is a Director on the board of these companies. He has lately worked on the framework of Safe, Secure, Smart Cities, an emerging global challenge that has particular significance in the Indian context.

His areas of domain expertise include Strategy & Innovation, Enterprise Security Risk Management, Loss Prevention, IT, Business Planning & Transformation and program management of complex people, process, technology and leadership related initiatives.

Having started his career in one of India’s premier IT companies (DCM Data Products), Rajan had stints in auto-ID (Bartronics) and packaged software (Vedika) companies prior to entering the safety and security industry in early 90s. Rajan is a regular speaker at Security, Loss Prevention, IT & Auto-ID industry events.
