Selected on Executive Committee Panel  NSCI Maharashtra Chapter (2016 To 2018)

Time is changing, transparency being seen in regular work practices, now EHS is no more supportive services. Rapidly it is becoming part of core business. To address EHS issue at large by devising effective methods for EHS friendly work practices. “Vision Zero Incident Zero Accident” attitude among society & industry through advocacy & service, by entrusting in IMS.(Inclusion of Quality, Environment & OHSAS). The predominating concern for employees & other stake holders about inadequate knowledge of environ friendly & safe work practices and a perception of the incompatibility of those needs with the current infrastructure. Concentrating on Hardware, software & Behavior based training.

1. INTRODUCTION

Building safety culture by strategic way. It is an integrated part of organizational culture.
Control & communication by raising awareness amongst all stake holders.  Planning, Engineering, Enforcement, Education, Awareness, Feedback.

  • Improving attitudes and behaviors;
  • Better training, preparation and introduction for the Employees & Other Stake holders.
  • Improving communication, cooperation and collaboration Feedback method within all concerned stakeholders
  • Improving data and research

2. CONTROL PRE QUALIFICATION

Selecting the employees & Subcontractors & their evaluation.  Communication is like that way. It is multidimensional. Not by threatening but by creating positivity in the mind of every user, such type of awareness shall be imparted. Promotional activities like Safety Week, Environment week, Fire week etc should be observed with heartily participation  of the employees & other stake holders.

Feedback & suggestion is also very effective way to nature the safety practices. Time, devotion, knowledge, ownership, patience, unbiased culture are required qualities for good communication.

3. AUDIT & INSPECTION & LEGAL COMPLIANCE

With regular interval, such activities  ensures all the safety practices are inline with the organization policy & carried out religiously.

4. TRANSPARENCY

Reporting of incidents shall be done strictly compulsory & religiously. Every stakeholder including vendors & contract employee shall be encouraged to report near miss. Near miss is a warning & shall be investigated properly, recommendations circulated in time & compliance ensured permanently.

5. TRAINING & AWARENESS

Both are major factor to achieve the competency. To carry out assigned duties safely without harming body & nature & damaging property in materialistic  form & to create a good quality product or result is correlated with competency. As  per requirement you can derive it from general to micro level. Training feedback is a mirror accordingly changes can be made.

6. HIRA & IER

Hazard identification & risk analysis for the human & materialistic safety & eco-friendly work practices is  the need of hour. It ensures employees involvement & participation.

7. CONTINUAL IMPROVEMENT

Through SGA, 6 sigma, Management program, Development. These are the platform ensuring EHS work practices from good to better & better to the best.

8. REWARDS & REORGANIZATION

From kid to pet animals everybody likes patting. Always encouraging by appreciation & rewarding is one of the most important tool in BBSM.

9. CHALLENGES & MITIGATION.

Reluctance to pouring finance in safety, Dedicating time for safety trainings & Urgency for the output or result, are main hurdles for implementing best safety practices. Global warming, Number of safety act related to various sector, Intensive BBSM, Brand Name & media plays the important role for implementing best EHS praises.

10. CONCLUSION

Safety is everybody’s responsibility. When person/employee joins any organization, shall be first introduced safety culture of the organization & make aware of safety policy.Training & Awareness, HIRA, IER, rewards & reorganization, BBSM, ownership, transparency continual improvement are the imp. factors to nurture the best EHS practices. This way journey from excellence to Ideal could happen.
