India’s lightest bulletproof Jacket ‘BhabhaKavach’ by the Ordnance Factory Board was launched at the International Police Expo 2019. Developed by OFB and MIDHANI, this state-of-the-art jacket can withstand 7.62mm hard steel core or bullets fired from an AK-47 rifle, 5.56mm INSAS bullet and even the recently decommissioned 7.65mm bullet of a self-loading rifle (SLR). It is half a kilo lighter than the prescribed weight by the MHA along with the 360 Degree Protection and has achieved the protection level of NIJ III+. BhabhaKavach only weighs 9.2kg and is a major breakthrough for the Indian armed forces. National security has always been the top priority for the new government. The rising graph of instances related to terrorism, cybercrime and various other kind of ethnic group conflicts has increased the demand for a robust homeland infrastructure in India.

According to Mr. V.K. Chaudhary, AGM, OFB, “BhabhaKavach is the lightest jacket now available for Indian Defence forces. It will be a great piece of equipment for our paramilitary forces and state police forces operating in Naxalite areas. The jacket has been developed indigenously and is powered with nano technology from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC). The jacket has a five-year warranty. Right from the development stage, we received immense response from the armed forces for BhabhaKavach. A large number of queries are coming from state police departments including Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka and Gujarat.”

To take country’s Police, Civil defence and Homeland Security to newer heights, International Police Expo 2019 was held on 19th-20th July 2019 at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. Leading manufacturers and technology players from Singapore, Israel, Korea, Taiwan, China, UK, USA, Malaysia, Germany, Australia, Poland and other nations displayed the best and advanced technologies in safety and security. The expo was organised by Nexgen Exhibitions, Asia’s leading and established trade fair, exhibition and conference organiser.
