Q. Today corporates are more conscious about fire detection & suppression products, how do you counter this demand of fire safety systems in India?
We do agree that corporates are much more conscious than before in terms of installing good Fire Protection & Suppression systems than before. There is a greater amount of knowledge with more professional consultants and trained end users who would like the systems to work in case of fire. We have more stress on high quality design to meet national & International standards, we have enhanced our teams not only at our HO a Gurgaon but also locally so that we can be close to customer.
We have a 99 year old Japanese Fire product & installation company which gives us an edge over others in terms of installation practices & project management skills which is imparted from our Japan office. We also have local teams which are trained both on design and project management.

Q. Please also highlight the latest initiatives in your industry domain?
We believe in training & having technical seminars which would enhance the knowledge of end-users and consultants. This would also give them an insight of the latest technology which is available today which can increase effectiveness of the Fire Detection & Suppression Systems. We are open to share our knowledge with whomever is interested to learn more on the latest technology which would also include our channel partners who would be designing, installing and maintaining Nohmi system.

Q. What are the market opportunities for your company’s products in India?
We have Nitrogen Inert gas Suppression which is one of the most environmentally friendly gas and listed in NFPA 2001 as an approved Clean Agent. Some of the very large systems installed at NTPC, Indian Oil, Oil India & LNG plants has been installed by us. On the detection side we have one of the largest touch screen in the industry which is very user friendly Fire Alarm panel. The industry is going the Touch Screen way and we have been one of the pioneers with the Touch Screen panel. We also have Aspiration Systems. All the products is with UL listing. We also have products with Japanese approvals and also some specialized products for high ceiling applications which can be used instead of Sprinklers. We are one of the leading Japanese EPC companies which can give a turnkey solution for any Fire Detection or suppression Systems.

Q. Does “India” as market has a great potential? What are the key performance areas?
One of the big potential I see is in Tall Buildings, if we analyze the max height of the Fire ladder which is available only in Mumbai is 90 mts. Even for that to work we need clearances on the ground. There has been approval given for buildings which are 200 mts + so we will have to have very good internal Fire Protection, Detection & passive fire protection. All the tall buildings would be a great potential for Fire Companies in India. With more than 100 smart cites
coming up there could be both retrofit and Greenfield projects.

Q. According to you what are the factors affecting the Fire Safety business?
One of the key factors is builders renting out the entire buildings or part of the building to MNC, IT Companies etc. The main system is being provided by the builder who at times want a system which is just fit to purpose and done just to get Fire approval from authorities. There have also been times when the quality of workmanship is very poor and it does effect the fit out jobs on individual floors when the company wants to move in. There have also been customers who want to supply items like pumps, Valves etc. The big question is who carries the system warranty. In case of a fire and if the system doesn’t work there would be a blame game between the
suppliers and installers.

Q. What is your vision for your company?
We want to be the No1 Fire Company in India, we have started our internal training and has been creating Regional Hubs to support the growth in India. We want to deliver high quality projects to our customers, support and maintain our installations. At Nohmi India, we are committed to doing the right thing in all aspects of our business. This requires that all of us, every day, exhibit an unwavering dedication to the highest ethical standards. We work diligently across our organization to reinforce the fundamental premise that every employee carries a share of the responsibility for the conduct and success of our company.
