Less than a year after the publication of the revised VdS-Guidelines for foam extinguishing systems, the first high-expansion foam generator, developed by the Dutch manufacturer InnoVfoam, has now been approved.
The demand for high-expansion foam extinguishing systems is increasing, e.g. for the protection of warehouses and storage areas. Their advantage: Fast flooding times, low water content in the extinguishing agent and thus minimised damage in case of emergency. At the beginning of 2018, the fundamentally revised VdS-Guidelines for foam extinguishing systems (VdS 2108) with new specifications specifically for the design and use of high-expansion foam technologies were published. Now, the first high-expansion foam generator has been VdS-approved: the development “Hi-Ex 600” by the Dutch company InnoVfoam B.V.
Frank Bzdega, head of the VdS laboratories for extinguishing systems and SHEVS, explains: “While many parts of high-expansion foam systems can be configured analogously to the tried-and-tested sprinkler technology, the foam generator is the crux of matter for this concept – if it doesn´t work reliably at all times, the entire system won´t save anything or anyone. With the InnoVfoam generator, the important high-expansion foam technology in accordance with VdS 2108 can now be implemented with approved components – an important step towards optimum protection.”
Johan Koekkoek, Managing Director of the manufacturer, emphasises: “We are very pleased that the high reliability of our product can now be verified at first glance– clearly proven by Europe’s most important certificate for fire protection. The strong foaming performance of the Hi-Ex 600 was validated at various pressure levels, and of course the VdS-test package also included clear confirmation of its resistance to ageing and environmental influences. In short: The Hi-Ex is there when it counts – and extinguishes efficiently with low water influx”.
